Notes for Mote White
His WW I draft registration card, filed 23 May 1882, records Mote White, age 36, born 23 May 1882, residence Cristy, Rowan Co., Ky, occupation laborer, employer Gilmore Fire Clay Co., Halderman, Rowan Co., Ky, nearest relative Mrs. Jipsie White, Christy, Rowan, Ky.

I cannot find Mote in the Kentucky death records, nor in Rowan Co cemetery records. (He is not buried in New Sill with Gipsy.) His date of death is from email correspondence in 1998 with Ruth Janet White.
Notes for Gipsy Pettit
Her death certificate records Jipsy Christian, died 15 Jan 1943, Morehead, Rowan Co., Ky, age 53 years 0 months 0 days, date of birth 15 Jan 1890, place of birth rural Rowan Co., married, name of husband Davis Christain (sic), name of father John Pettitt, maiden name of mother Alice Clark, informant, Carl White of Morehead, cause of death cerebral hemorhage due to hypertension, burial in New Ceal Cemetery. (Apparently Carl mistakenly thought that “Lissie”, as her mother was called, was a nickname for Alice instead of Malissa.)

The same dates are on her gravestone, which has her name as Gipsy Christian. Her sister Lennie’s death record and gravestone, though, gives her birthdate as 30 Jan 1890, so at least one of them must be wrong.
Notes for Mote & Gipsy (Family)
Wyoming Co., West Virginia marriage records list the marriage on 15 Jan 1909 of Mote White, age 21, son of James White, to Jipsy Pettit, age 17, daughter of John & Malissa Pettit, bride and groom both born in Rowan Co., Ky, both residents of Wyoming Co., WVa, information on license confirmed by Jesse Cornett of Wyoming Co., WVa, marriage perfomed by Geo. A. Thompson at Herndon, W.Va.
Census
1910 census of Rowan Co., Ky, Hogtown, E.D. 156, p. 16B, taken 7 May, records as family #271:
White, Mote, 27; Jeppsey, 19; married 1 year, no children. Both born Ky Ky Ky.

1920 census of Rowan Co., Ky, enumerated 29 Jan, lists on p. 18A as family #325/328:
White, Mote, 38, farmer; Gypsie, wife, 27; Harrie, son, 10; Marrie, dau, 8; Cadie, dau, 6; Allen, son, 4 6/12. All born Ky Ky Ky.

This census is rather badly mangled. The son Allen should be a daughter Aleen or Allene, and she was only 1 and a half, not 4 and a half. The daughter Cadie should be a son Carl, and he was only 3, not 6. The daughter Marrie should be Muriel. (At least the age is correct for her.) I suspect the census taker first took rough notes on his visit, and then copied them into the official form later, and couldn’t read his own notes.

1930 census of Rowan Co., Ky, Hogtown precinct, enumerated 4 April, lists on pp. 1A-1B as family #10:
White, Mote, 47, age at first marriage 26, farmer; Gipsie, wife, 39, age at first marriage 17; Harold, son, 19; Murel, dau, 18; Carl, son, 12; Allena, dau, 9; Myrtle, dau, 8; Maxine, dau, 3 10/12. All born Ky Ky Ky.

Now Carl and Allena (Aleen) have gone from being recorded as older than their actual ages to being younger! Carl should be 13, and Allena (Aleen) should be 11, almost 12.
