Notes for Henry C. Caudill
Most of this family group is from Gary D. Lewis.

An article on the Pleasant Hadyn family and collateral relations in the 1956 Centennial Edition of the Rowan Co. News8 reads, in part,

"William W. William's wife, Rebecca, was the 4th child of 15 children of Rev. Henry C. Caudill and Elizabeth (Short) Caudill, who were married in Letcher County, Nov 9, 1848. About 1860, they moved to Rowan County to what was later known as the Sammy Caudill farm on Craney. A little later they moved to Ditney Ridge, where they raised their large family and until their deaths. Both were born in Wise County, Virginia, he on Dec. 9, 1848 and she on Oct. 17, 1830. Mrs. Caudill was the daughter of Anderson Short, (her mother's maiden name was Melling), and a sister of Civil War Veteran Daniel Short, who moved to Morehead from Ditney at the close of the century. Two other brothers, Washington and Booker Short lived in Bath County, near Olympia Springs."
Notes for Elizabeth Jane Short
According to Douglas Bishop, who visited there in April 1996, her stone in Caudill Cemetery says that she died 22 March 1915. But Larry Lawrence's family group sheet (Larry D. Lawrence, 429 W. Staat Str., Fortville, IN 46040-1249) has 22 Mar 1910, as does the survey conducted by the Rowan County Historical Society.
