Notes for Ollie F. Petitt
Morgan Co. vital statistics on LDS microfilm #0216,835 list birth of a son Ollie F. Petitt on 2 June 1893 to John Petitt and Flora Robbins. Both parents are listed as born in Morgan County.

His WWI draft registration card, issued in 1917/1918 (the images on Ancestry do not show the side of the card that has the date it was filed), says Ollie Petitt, age 24, residence Farmers, Ky, born 2 June 1893 in Morgan Co., Ky, occupation common laborer, employed by Rowan Co Freestone Company, Farmers, married, supporting a wife and two children.

His death certificate records Ollie Petitt, died Apr 19, 1922 in Farmers, Rowan Co., states that he was age 28, married, b. June 2, 1893, occupation "quairy labor", father (and informant) John W. Petitt, mother Flora Robbins, cause of death "internal injury from quary acident mashed to death by faling rock."

Jean (Hudson) Burchett's Rowan Co. cemetery notes list in a small unnamed graveyard on Christy Creek Rd (US 32 East), "Allie Pettit d. 24 Apr 1922, husband of Lizzie and father of Van age 6 and Catherine age 20 mo." (Jean's notes often do not make a distinction between actual words on the stone and data from other sources. It appears that she has combined her cemetery notes with other notes here, presumably the guardianship bond, which was dated 24 Apr.) She lists no other Pettits in the unnamed cemetery. The Rowan County Historical Society lists Ollie Petitt in Siloam Cemetery, which is on Bull Fork Road (not Christy Creek), and which is one of the larger cemeteries in the county. I don’t know whether Jean’s notes had got mixed up, or whether Ollie was moved from some other cemetery to Siloam in order to be near his two sons who died young.
Notes for Ollie F. & Elizabeth ("Lizzie") Martin (Family)
Rowan Co., Ky marriage book 9, p. 92, records the marriage on 17 Apr 1915 of Ollie Petitt, age 21, son of John & Flora Petitt, to Eliza Elam, age 16, daughter of Marion & Elizabeth Elam, both single, born in and residents of Rowan Co. Bond surety by J. B. Messer. Marriage book A, p. 92 contains the minister’s record stating that the marriage was performed at the bride’s home by T. F. Stamper, minister of the Christian Church, witnesses J. W. Gilkison and Blanch Gilkison.

Rowan Co., Ky guardianship bonds book 1, p. 47, records a bond issued on 24 Apr 1922 for Lizzie Petitt as guardian to Van Petitt age 6 years and Catharine Petitt age 20 months, bond surety by Ward Elam in the penal sum of $1000. (It seems unusual to me for a widowed mother to have to post a guardianship bond on her own children. It cannot have been standard practice, because there were only 386 guardianship bonds filed between 1919 and 1953 (most of them not to a parent of the minor) and there were many more widows left with minor children than that.
Census
1920 census of Dunkirk, Richland township, Jay Co., Indiana, enumerated 8 January, lists on p. 8B as family #194/197 on North F. Str:
Petitt, Ollie, 26, laborer at factory; Lizzie, wife, 21; Van, son, 3 10/12; Henry, son, 2 7/12; Joseph, son, 1 3/12. All born Ky/Ky/Ky. The next family is that of Ollie’s mother and siblings.

This family apparently moved back to Rowan Co., Ky almost immediately after this census was taken, because Henry died there at age 2 on 28 Feb 1920.

1930 census of Washington, District of Columbia, E.D. 386, enumerated 15 April, lists on p.19B in the Washington City Orphan Asylum, at lines 59 and 60:
Petitt, Velma K., 9, b. Ky Indiana Ky; Maxine, 7, b. Ky Indiana Ky.

Also on the same page, on line 66, is their half-brother, Frank Smith, age 5, b. Ky Ky Ky.

I cannot find Lizzie in 1930, under either Smith or Brown. Nor can I find Van Pettit.
