Notes for Samuel ("Sammie") F. Crose
His WWI Draft Registration card, issued in 1917/1918 (the images on Ancestry do not show the side of the card that has the date it was filed), says Sammie Crose, age 27, residence Crix, Ky, born 12 Jan 1889 in Rowan Co, Ky, occupation farmer, self-employed, married supporting a wife and one chlld under 12.

The index to Kentucky death records lists Samuel F. Crose d. 20 Apr 1958, age 68, in Boyd Co., residence Rowan Co., certificate Vol. 25, #12020.

The above record implies a birthdate in early 1890 or late 1889, as does his marriage record, but the 1900 census lists Sammie as age 14, born Feb 1886. Entering a 10-year-old as age 14 is a large discrepancy. (Too bad there is no 1890 census.) Howard Crose's database has Sammy's date of birth as 20 Jan 1886. His gravestone says 20 Jan 1900.
