Notes for William ("Willie") C. & Lizzie M. (Family)
Rowan Co. marriage book 8, p. 15, records marriage on 18 Dec 1912 of William Crose, 21, s/o Abe & Martha A. Crose, to Lizzie M. Dehart, 17, d/o W. P. & Mary S. Dehart, by B. F. Fannin at Clayton, Elliott Co., witnesses David Clark & Mace Adkins, surety by Jesse Crose.

In 1940, my great-grandfather Jesse Petitt was assigned guardianship of the three youngest children of this family, even though Willie was already remarried to his second wife Opal Lambert. Rowan County Guardianship Bonds, Book 1, p. 306, records:

-------
GUARDIAN BOND - COMMONWEALTH OF KENTUCKY

WHEREAS, Jesse Petitt has been appointed by the County Court of Rowan and qualifies as Guardian to Troy Crose age 17 yrs, Chas Crose age 15 and Freda Crose age 9 all minors, NOW we, Jesse Petitt and J. A. Lewis his sureties, do hereby covenant to and with the Commonwealth of Kentucky, in the penal sum of Five Hundred ($500.00) Dollars that the said Jesse Petitt will faithfully discharge the trust of Guardian to said Minors, in all respects as requested by law.

Signed this 18th day of Nov 1940.

Jessie Petitt
J. A. Lewis

Attest: C. W. Pelfrey, Clerk of Rowan County Court
-------

Jessie Petitt was Willie Crose’s maternal uncle.. His wife Emma was Lizzie Dehart’s half-sister. So Willie and Lizzie’s children were Emma’s half-niece and nephews, and Jessie’s great-niece and nephews.
