Notes for John W. Hall
Rowan Co. birth records, on LDS microfilm #216839, list John W. Hall, b. July 12, 1856, son of Alfred Hall & Susan Downing, place of birth East Triplett. The entry above is for Mahala J. Hall b. 2 Jan 1856 to "George Hall & Elizabeth Riddle". Apparently the clerk transposed the names of the wives when copying these two lines. (The book is not a day-by-day register, but a copy made at the beginning of one year of the reports submitted by physicians and midwives of the births they had assisted at in the preceding year.) Triplett is at the north edge of Rowan Co., in the area that used to be Fleming Co. before Rowan was formed in 1856.

His death certificate records John Hall, age 78 years 4 months 28 days, born 12 July 1855 in Fleming Co., died 8 Dec 1933 in Fleming Co., married, wife of Abby Hall, farmer, father Captain Hall, mother’s maiden name Lizzie Hall, both born in Fleming Co., cause of death arterio sclerosis, informant T. C. Reed, Colfax, Ky, burial in Fairview Cemetery.
Census
Possibly the John W. Hall, age 25, b. Ky Ky Ky, listed in the 1880 census of Harrison Co., Ky as a farm hand boarding with the family of G. W. Jones, age 23, and his wife Ethellyn age 20. (I cannot find any fit in Fleming or Rowan Co.)

Probably the John Hall, age 46, b. July 1853, single, listed in the 1900 census of Fleming Co., Ky, as a farm hand with the family of Nancy McRoberts, age 58, widowed.
Notes for Abigail Plank
Her death certificate records Abbie Hall, age 71 years 11 months 15 days, born 1 July 1870 in Kentucky, died 16 June 1942 in Silver Creek township, Greene Co., Ohio, widow of David Bradshaw and _ Hall (two lines in the spouse field, with David Bradshaw on the top, and Hall with no given name below), father Frank Cooper, mother’s maiden name Amanda not known, both born in Kentucky, cause of death coronary heart disease, informant Irene Carter, Jamestown, Ohio, burial in Fariview Cemetery.

The reported birthdate is very inconsistent with census records, which show her as age 3 in 1880, and as age 24 born July 1875 in 1900. I am using the 1875 date, but it might really be 1876.

Her maiden name was given as Plank on her 1892 marriage record, as well as it being given as her maiden name in the birth record for her daughter Irene. The 1880 census is unclear whether she is intended to be listed as a Birk (Burk) or Plank. See her mother’s notes for details.
Census
In the 1940 census she was listed in Bowersville, Adams Co., Ohio, with her daughter Emma and Emma’s husband Thomas Reed, as Abba Hall, mother-in-law, age 68, widowed, b. Ky.
Census Notes for John W. & Abigail (Family)
1920 census of Fleming Co., Ky, Grange City precinct, enumerated 31 Jan, lists on p. 14B as family #271/272:
Hall, John, 66, farmer; Abbe, wife, 47; Harvey, son, 14; Thomas, son, 11; Molly, dau, 10; Irene, dau, 3. All born Ky Ky Ky.

Although all the children are listed as Halls, Harvey, Thomas and Molly are really children of Abbie and her first husband, David Bradshaw. Only Irene is a daughter of John and Abbie.

1930 census of Fleming Co., Ky, district 5, enumerated April 28, lists on p. 18B as family #273/274:
Hall, John, 75, age at first marriage 23, farmer; Abbey, wife, 57, age at first marriage 20; Irene, dau, 15. All born Ky Ky Ky.

Although John describes his age at first marrage as 23, which would have been in 1879, the 1880 and 1900 censuses both list him as single, unless I have identified the wrong census records. (It is a common name, but I can find no better fits age-wise.)
