Notes for William Amos & Mary Jane (Family)
Grant Co. Marriage Bond Bk 4, p. 97, Court Clerk's Office, Williamstown, Ky, lists marriage of William Petit & Mary Jane Hambrick, 15 Jan 1851.

Family bible belonging to William A. Pettit, now in possession of Virginia Loomis, photocopy on file at the Kentucky Historical Society, says "William A Pettit Was Born in the year of our lord January 27 1828 Mary Jane Pettit Was Born March 1, 1830 William A Pettit And Mary J. Hambrick was Adjoined in Matrimony January 16 1850". (The entry is not contemporaneous with the marriage: the Bible was published in 1854, and from the mix of handwritings, it seems that the entries cited above were probably made sometime in 1855. So the year may be in error. Another argument for the date from the marriage bond being the correct one is that in the 1850 census, taken in Sept, William was living with his grandfather Charles Secrest, with no wife evident.)
