Notes for Charles Samuel Pettit
Souvenir Edition, The Williamstown Courier, Williamstown, Ky, May 30, 1901, reprinted September 19, 1981 by the Grant County KY Historical Society, contains the following article:

C. S. PETTIT. The Pettit family in Grant County is one of the oldest
and most respected families in the county. C. S. Pettit is at this day
probably the best known of any of the younger generation. He was born
in this county January 10, 1859, and is a son of W. A. Pettit and Mary
(Hambrick) Pettit, and is one of a family of eight children born to
them, all of whom are now living but two. He was raised on his
father's farm and secured a good common school education and began life
for himself as a farmer, and has kept up that occupation from that day
until this. Charlie has been married three times. His first wife was
Ruba Hedger, daughter of James Hedger, of Eagle Creek. She died in
1883, leaving no children. In 1887 he contracted a marriage with
Fannie Lawrence, and to this marriage four children were born, two of
whom are living and two of whom are dead. His second wife dying, he
later married Miss Florida Beard, who still survives, and to this last
marriage two children have been born. Charlie Pettit is a staunch
Democrat, who works and votes for his party. One term he has served
as a magistrate from Downingsville district, and he made a good one.
He owns a nice home and fifty acres of good land. He and his wife are
both members of the Vine Run Baptist Church, and he is a deacon, and
for thirteen years has been the church clerk.

Charles is buried under a triple stone inscribed: C. S. Pettit, 1859 - 1933, His wives, Florida 1878-1916 | Fannie 1867 - 1896

His death certificate records Charles Pettit, age 67 years 6 months 6 days, born 18 Jan 1866 in Grant Co., Ky, died 22 July 1933, in Flat Creek, Grant Co., Ky, widowed, farmer, father William Pettit born in Grant Co., Ky, mother’s maiden name unknown, cause of death found dead valvular heart lesion, informant Mr. C. A. Pettit, Elliston, Ky, burial in Pettit Cemetery.

The year of birth is incorrect by quite a large amount, since he was listed as age 1 in the 1860 census. The day may be correct, but since so much else is sketchy about this death certificate I am going by the date in the newspaper article instead.
