Notes for Floyd Dee & Susan (Family)
Odessa’s death certificate lists her parents as Floyd Hall and Margaret Johnson; Ida’s marriage license lists her parents as Floyd Hall and Susan Johnson Hall; Charles’ marriage license lists his parents as Floyd and Susan Hall.

At first I assumed that Susan’s middle name was Margaret, and that she sometimes went by that name, but the 1870 and 1880 censuses shows that William B. Johnson had daughters Susan born about 1862 and Margaret born August 1869. It is unlikely that two sisters who both lived to adulthood would both go by the same name, even if it was a middle name for one of them. It is also unlikely that Floyd married first Margaret Johnson and later her sister Susan, since his marriage license to Mary Hall listed that as his second marriage, and the marriage license to Mary Burton listed that as his third. (In the 1910 census, Floyd and Susan’s daughter’s Ida and Clara are listed as nieces of Susan’s sister Flora, so the Susan who is the daughter of William B. Johnson and Nancy J. Patton is the right Susan Johnson.)

So my current judgement (subject of course to further evidence) is that the unspecified informant on Dessie’s death certificate was just mistaken about her mother’s given name. Since Dessie’s mother died when she was a child, it would be fairly easy for relatives to get confused, especially if the informant was someone on the Gilkinson side of the family.
