Notes for Joseph M. Clark
In April 1828 Joseph M. Clark was appointed surveyor of a road in Lawrence Co., Ky.

In Dec 1829 Joseph M. receives 260 acres on Tug Fork (Lawrence Co., KY) from John Bartram. In 1830 Joseph M. sells this same land back to John Bartram. In 1830 Joseph M. gives to his father, Joseph Clark, Sr. of Tazewell Co., VA certain personal property for a debt of 80 dollars owed his father for a horse since 1820.
Census
1830 census of Lawrence Co., KY lists:
Joseph M. Clarke, 1 male under 5; 1 male 30-39; 1 female under 5; 1 female
15-19.

1840 census of Portsmouth, Scioto Co., Ohio, lists:
Joseph M. Clark, 1 male under 5; 1 male 5-9; 1 male 30-39; 1 female 5-9; 1 female 10-14; 1 female 20-29.

I can’t find Joseph in 1850. There is a Cynthia Clark listed as age 34, born Virginia, in Portsmouth with the family of Thomas G. Lloyd, who may be his widow (although her age was probably more like 38), but the 1850 census does not give relationships or marital status. There are no Clark children with her, but judging by the 1840 census, Joseph and Cynthia had at least two sons and two daughters.
