Her death certificate states Abgil Cox, age 77 years 6 months, born 30 May 1870 in Elliott Co., died 30 Nov 1947 in Haldeman, Rowan Co., Ky, married, wife of John Cox age 78, father Marion Crisp, mother’s maiden name Queen Barker, cause of death hypertensive heart disease, informant Mrs. Clyde Bledsoe, Morehead, Ky.

Her obituary in the Rowan County News of Thursday, Dec. 4, 1847 reported:

Services Held Tuesday For Haldeman Woman

Funeral services for Abagill Crisp Cox, 77, who died Sunday at her home in Haldeman, were conducted Tuesday at her home, with burial in the family cemetery on Trent Ridge.

Mrs. Cox, daughter of the late Marion and Queen Crisp, was born in Elliott County May 30, 1870.

On September 27, 1888, she ws united in marriage to John Cox. They came to Rowan County at that time and lived the rest of her life here. To this union were born 13 children, 5 of whom preceded her in death.

She is survived by her husband, John Cox; eight children, Henry and Milzie Cox of Morehead, Luther Cox, Haldeman, Ottis Cox, Elliottville, Mrs. Lillie Crabtree, Covington, Mrs. Lucy Bledsoe, Morehead, Mrs. Vada Crose, Muncie, Ind., and Mrs. Opal Riddle, Firco, W. Va., several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Isaac Caudill, assisted by Rev. Zora Trent and Rev. Cleofus Cox.

The Lane Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.”

The preceding household is headed by Abigail’s brother Ep. Two households below is John and Abigail’s son Henry. Three households below is John’s brother Solomon.

1930 census of Rowan Co., Ky, Hogtown precinct, enumerated 22 April, lists on p. 12A as family #202/212:
Cox, Johnnie, 60, age at first marriage 19, farmer; Abbigil, wife, 59, age at first marriage 18; Opal, dau, 16; Ottis A.b., son, 25, married, age at first marriage 20; Glinn, grandson, 3 11/12; Delmer, grandson, 1 10/12. All born Ky Ky Ky.

The notation “A.b.” after Ottis is probably not part of his name, but a variation of the abbreviation “Ab” for “Absent”.
