Notes for James McClain
He may be a brother of the John S. McClain who married Sibby Reeves in 1855 in Fleming Co. (Conjecture based on the daughter named Sibby, and on the migration of this family to Fleming Co.)
Notes for James & Emily (Family)
I have not been able to locate a marriage record for James and Emily, nor a death record for either of them. Probably they both died before 1910.
Census
1870 census of Fleming Co., Ky, Flemingsburg precinct, enumerated 24 June, lists on p. 31 as family #187/188:
McClain, James, 44, laborer; Emily, 32; Susan, 21; Sally A., 19; Emily, 17; John, 14; Cibby, 11; Alfred, 2; McCarty, Jackson, 22, laborer.

The age gap between Cibby and Alfred suggest that only Alfred is Emily’s child.

1880 census of Rowan Co., Ky, Brushy Fork precinct, enumerated 1 June, lists on pp. 36-37 as family #276/322:
McLane, James, 55; Emily, wife, 45; Martha, 8, dau; David M., son, 6. All born Ky Ky Ky.

The next household is that of Ephraim Cooper and Clarinda Purvis, whose son Francis married James’ daughter Sibby from his first marriage.

In 1900 James and Emily were living with their son David Marion:

1900 census of Morgan Co., Ky, district 6, enumerated 20 June, lists on p. 17B as family #276/279:
McClain, Marion, 24, b. Aug 1875, farmer; Elizabeth, wife, 20, b. Sep 1879, married 4 years, mother of 2 children, 2 living; Sarah E., dau, 2, b. Mar 1898; Vesta A., dau, 2/12, b. Mar 1900; James, father, 73, b. June 1826, married 52 years; Emily, mother, 65, b. Mar 1835, married 52 years, mother of 5 children, 2 living.

The 52 years married is probably the number of years since James’ first marriage, and is most likely incorrect for Emily. (Even if she was really born in 1835, it would mean she was married at age 13, and the 1870 census suggests that she was born about 1837 or 1838.)

I have not been able to find James or Emily in the 1910 census, nor in the Kentucky death records. Their children Martha and David Marion were both in Oklahoma.
