Notes for Henry Everett Trent
Phil McBrayer's notes, based on data provided by Vada Skaggs Trent, gives Henry's date of birth as 10/25/1900. But he is listed as 7 mos. old in the 1900 census, taken during the summer, so that must be a year off. (Censuses often make mistakes, and this one more than most, but they can't list people who aren't born yet!)

His WW I draft registration card, issued in 1917/1918 (the images on Ancestry do not show the side of the card that has the date it was filed), say Henry Evert Trent, age 18, residence Clayton, Elliott Co., Ky, born 25 Sep 1899, occupation farmer, self-employed, married, nearest relative Mrs. Allie Trent, wife.

His death certificate states Henry Evert Trent, age 28 years 4 months 4 days, born 25 Sep 1899 in Clayton, Ky, died 29 Jan 1928 in Rowan Co., Ky, married, husband of Allie Trent, father Julis Trent, born W. Va, mother’s maiden name Martha Black, cause of death “shot gun wound in stomach & side, died instantly no Dr”, informant Julis Trent, Clayton, Ky, burial in Black Cemetery.

According to Dianna Gilliam, Everett was married to Allie Conn, sister to Lula Conn Black and Martha Conn Johnson. They had four small children. Everett was apparently a bit of a rabble rouser and was at the home of Rans Trent and was raising trouble with Rans and Tyree Mathews. Everett was drinking and causing trouble and said he was going to go home and get his gun and come back and kill one of them, he went home, came back with his gun but he is the one who ended up dead. Omer Trent said some of Everett's friends were taking him home when he was shot in the back, supposedly by Tyree Mathews.

Allie was left a young widow with four small children to raise; she put the oldest children in the care of the Masonic orphanage during the school year and worked to help raise them but only kept the baby with her full time.
Census Notes for Allie Conn
The 1930 census of Rowan Co. lists Allie Trent, age 35, widowed, age at first marriage 23, as a servant with the family of James Adkins (75), his wife Sarah (63) and their two grandsons Carl and Raymond Thomas, ages 11 and 9. There are no other Trents in the household.

In the Masonic Widows and Orphans Home in Jefferson Co. (presumably Louisville, although no location within the county is specified), are Arlen Trent, male, age 12, (p. 7 line 14), Myrtle Trent, age 6 (p. 13 line 35), and Ina Trent, age 10 (p. 13 line 37.)

The large orphanage listed 50 employees, 46 adult residents (called inmates), and 589 minor wards. The children are not listed in any discernable order, neither by name nor age, although boys are listed before girls. The home constitutes the entire enumeration district 213.

Also wards of the orphanage were Geneva Trent age 9, Hubert Trent age 7, and Edward Trent age 6, the children of Dory Trent and Clara Conn.
