Notes for Benjamin Franklin Sexton
A death notice in the Mt. Sterling Advocate of Nov. 19, 1895 reported “Mr. Ben Sexton, of Menifee County, died Sunday morning from complications of troubles, aged 65 years. Mr. Sexton was a ex-confederate soldier, was a brave, true soldier, and honest and well known citizen. He was Constable in Frenchburg precinct and gave attention to his office the same way as if he was receiving from it a handsome compensation.”, and one in the Hazel Green Herald of the same date reported “Maytown News: B. F. Sexton, a former citizen of this town, died at his home in Frenchburg Sunday and was buried Monday evening at Claypool Graveyard on Blackwater. His father, 86 years old, five brothers, and a three sisters, and a host of relatives and friends attended the funeral.”
Notes for Jane Barker
Birth date is based on the 1900 census, but is not reliable. She was recorded as age 23 in 1860 (implying about 1837), 38 in 1870 (about 1832), 50 in 1880 (about 1830), and 65 born May 1835 in the 1900 census. Since I do not know her parents, and Jane Barker is a fairly common name, it would be too speculative to try to identify her in the 1850 census.

Her death certificate records Jane Sexton, age about 78, birth place blank, “don’t know exact date of birth” (implication from reported age is about 1834), died 5 July 1912 in Frenchburg, Menifee Co., Ky, widowed, “no record of her parents”, cause of death “diagnosis not complete symptoms as acute ascending paralysis”, informant blank but the medical section and the notation about unknown parents are both signed J. M. Kash, burial in Sexton grave yard.
