Notes for Robert Menifee Hackney
His obituary in the Middletown Journal of March 11, 1956 reported:

“Robert Hackney, 82, of 122 Oak St., River Rouge, Mich., died Saturday at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Harold Hawkins, at the River Rouge address.

Born Oct 29, 1873, in Frenchburg, Ky., Mr. Hackney formerly was employed by the Gardner Board & Carton Co. until his retirement several years ago.

He had been in failing heath since 1954 and his condition had been serious for six months.

Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Linnie Hoppe of West Elkton, Mrs. Hawkins, Mrs. Manda Laakso of Salina, Kan., and Mrs. Minnie Gilbert of Middletown; one son, Charles B. Hackney of River Rouge; 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mrs. Lee Keen and Miss Cleo Hackney, both of Middletown. His wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Hackney, died in November, 1944.

Funeral Services will be held at 2pm Tuesday at the Riggs Funeral Home, with burial in Woodside Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9pm Monday. Friends have been asked to omit flowers.”

Her obituary in the Middletown Journal of Nov. 10, 1944 reported:

“Mrs. Elizabeth Hackney, 74, of 3133 Ohio Ave., died at 10:30pm Thursday in Middletown Hospital, where she had been confined for two months. Mrs. Hackney was ill for about three years.

She was the wife of Robert Hackney and had lived in Middletown for the past 28 years, making many friends during this time. Mrs. Hackney was an active member of the Crawford St. Church of God as long as her health permitted, and was well thought of by all who knew her. At one time she was active in the War Mothers organization.

Besides her husband, she leaves one son, Charles of Cleveland; five daughters, Mrs. Butler Rothwell of Frenchburg, Ky; Mrs. Harold Hawkins of River Rouge, Mich.; Mrs. Linnie Hoppe, Mrs. Amanda Neveauz, and Mrs. Minnie Gilbert, all of this city; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The body is at the Riggs Funeral Home, where friends may call after 2pm Saturday. Funeral arrangements are incomplete.”
