He was recorded in the 1880 census as age 12, suggesting a birth date in late 1867 or early 1868, but he does not appear at all in the 1870 census. The 1900 census gives his birth date as Sep 1872.
His gravestone has the years 1868 - 1903. The date of death is consistent with Ruth’s statement on her marriage license application that her father died when she was two years old. His death must have been late in 1903, though, if he was the father of Eunice.

Although Price and Pearl shared a surname, their closest relationship was through their mothers, who were sisters. So they were first cousins on the Spence side, but only second cousins once removed on the Donathan side. (Probably related through a Basford line as well, but I do not know the parents of either Eliza Basford wife of Moses Spence or Nancy Basford wife of John Donathan Sr..)
