Homer O. Pettit enlisted in the U.S. Army at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indiana, on 25 Feb 1944. Birth year 1918, residence Elkhart, Indiana, education grammar school, married, height and weight unspecified.

His obituary reported:

“Homer O. Pettit, 92 of Elkhart, Indiana was found Saturday Aug. 14 at his residence. He was born April 9, 1918 in Upland, Indiana to Grant and Emma Goldy Pettit. He married Delores Quick April 7, 1934 in South Bend, Indiana, she died in 1975.

Surviving are two daughters Sharon (Tim) Hicks of Elkhart, Judith (Ken) Copper of Florida, two sons DeWayne (Peggy) of Elkhart, Robert (Pam) of Goshen, 10 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, sisters Phyllis Swaggart of Hemmit, CA. Proceeded parents, wife, son Gerald, Homer Jr., sister Geneva Williams, brothers Benjamin Pettit, Warren Pettit, three half brothers Albert, Jess Pettit and Henry Hawkins.

Mr. Pettit owned and operated from 1954 to 1975 Pettit Plumbing and Sewer. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army. There will be no services or calling hours. Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flower donations can be made to the Salvation Army of Elkhart.”

(The sister identified as Phylis Swaggart of Hemmit is probably just a misspelling of Swikert. It is unlikely Phyllis remarried to a second husband whose name was so similar to her first, and Hemmit is a misspelling of Hemet.)
