His death certificate records James Howland, age 66 years 6 months 15 days, born 13 Jan 1845 in Ky, died 25 July 1911 near Petersville, Lewis Co., Kentucky, married, farmer, father Oliver P. Howland, mother’s maiden name Mary Henderson, cause of death mitral regurgitation, informant Alice M. Gilbert, Crum, Ky, burial in Oak Ridge.
Notes for Amy Elizabeth Henderson
Carter Co., Ky birth records, p. 21, records “I certify that on the 17 day of March 1852, a female child was born alive, at full time, at the house of James Henderson on Trough Camp Fork. This child was the daughter of James and Rebecca Henderson, late Rebecca Gilbert, who reside on Trough Camp Fork in Carter County. The child was named Amy Elizabeth. Dated 11th March 1853, Elizabeth Setter, M.W.”

(I’m transcribing it in full because I find the format of these forms to be interesting. For example, the words “at the house of ____ on ____” are in the printed form, showing the assumption that all children would be born at someone’s house, and that residences would be routinely identified by which watershed they were on, rather than by town names.)
