Notes for Thomas Petitt
His name is known only from the death certificate of Andrew Jackson Pettit, and may possibly be incorrect.

There is no Thomas Petitt (or variant spelling) listed in Morgan, Bath, Fleming or nearby counties in the 1840 census. The only one in east Kentucky is Thomas Pettitt, listed in Pike Co., 1 male 70-79, 1 female 70-79, and 1 male under 5, presumably a grandson. It is interesting, though, that the preceding household is a Thomas Lewis, age 20-29.

Very speculative attachment as a son of Benjamin Pettit of Lewis and Greenup counties is based on the observation that Benjamin’s parents Samuel and Rachel Pettit are the ancestors of all the known Pettits of that part of Kentucky (Lewis, Pike and Greenup counties). The children of their oldest son Samuel Jr. are already known, and their other sons were too young to have children born in 1820. That leaves Benjamin as the one with room for unknown children.
Notes for Sarah Cassity
Her name is known only from the death certificate of Andrew Jackson Pettit.
Notes for Thomas & Sarah (Family)
Birthdates for both Thomas and Sarah are very approximate, and could be as much as 20 years earlier or five years later. It is most likely that they were a young couple when Andrew was born, though, since Thomas does not appear in any census as a head of household, indicating that he was probably living with a relative.
