His obituary reported “Herbert L. Perkins, age 74, of Warsaw, Kentucky, formerly of Shelby County, Kentucky, where he resided for 40 years, passed away Saturday, August 21, 2010, at Gallatin Health Care in Warsaw.

    Born July 5, 1936, in Rowan County, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Clarence E. and Versie Riddle Perkins. 

    Besides his parents, Herbert was preceded in death by two brothers, Clell Perkins and William Milzie Perkins, and three sisters, Hazel Lewis, Lela Pearl Perkins and Anna Newman.

    Mr. Perkins is survived by the mother of his children, Rose Zell Crawford Perkins of Morehead, Kentucky; four children, Bradford and Sharon Perkins of Henry County, Kentucky, Kimberly Ann and Randy Oppenheimer of Richmond, Kentucky; Phillip S. and Donna Perkins of Shelbyville, Kentucky, and Anita J. and Kirk Martin of Gallatin, Tennessee; four grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.

    Survivors also include four brothers, Millard Perkins and Cleo Perkins, both of Springfield, Ohio, Raymond Perkins of Lawrenceburg, Kentucky, and Wilburn Perkins of Benton, Arkansas; two sisters, Olive Skaggs of Mt. Sterling, Kentucky, and Grace Perkins of Worcester, Massachusetts; and several nieces and nephews.

    Herbert served in the U.S. Army and was a retired insurance salesman.

    Funeral services will be conducted 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 25, 2010, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Gary McQuain officiating. Burial will follow in the Jones Cemetery with full military rites conducted by Morehead American Legion Post No. 126.

    Pallbearers will be Clarence Crawford, Lee Roy Trent, Troy Perkins, Jerry Perkins, Tim Shelton, and Darrell Crawford.”
