Notes for Edward Lands
There was also an Edward Lands born Sep 1881 in Franklin Co., Ohio. Be careful not to get them confused.

His WW I draft registration card, filed Sep 1918, records Ed Lands, age 35, residence Nelsonville, Athens Co., Ohio, born 25 May 1883, employer Pittsburg Coal Co., Nelsonville, Athens Co., Ohio, nearest relative Mrs. Sousa Lands, Nelsonville, Athens Co., Ohio.

His WW II draft registration card records Ed Lands, age 59, residence Marion township, 3 miles east of Alger, Hardin Co., Ohio, born 25 May 1882 in Athens Co., Ohio, contact Nora Shadley, Alger, Ohio.

His death certificate records Edward Lands, age 69, born 25 May 1881 in Ohio, died 15 Mar 1951 in Manton, Floyd Co., Ky, occupation mining and farmng, divorced, father Bill Lands, mother’s maiden name Sophie Johnson, cause of death found dead in bed (illegible phrase) carcinoma of rectum, informant Ted Meadows, burial in Clark May Cemetery, Manton, Ky.

I cannot find any community named Manton in Floyd Co., Ky. There is a Martin, Ky there, but this certificate pretty clearly says Manton. It even has Martin, Ky as the address of the funeral director, and the words Manton and Martin are very near each other and look quite different. It was probably a coal mining camp.

Notes for Edward & Malinda “Linnie” M. (Family)
My only connection to this family is that Linnie’s daughter Gladys Devore married my first cousin three times removed, Floyd David Pettit. I initially researched them just far enough to verify that Devore was Linnie’s maiden name rather than the name of a previous husband, and to confirm Gladys’s relationship to Edgar Lands who was living with Floyd and Gladys in the 1930 census.

But Cindy Spears, daughter of Clarence Lands, saw my correction note for the 1910 census entry on Ancestry.com (about the incorrect surname for the Lands children, who were indexed under Devore), and contacted me asking for more information. So I filled out what I could about Edward’s other wives and children and his and their ancestors.
Census
1910 census of Athens Co., Ohio, Dover township, enumerated 5 May, lists on p. 13A as family #221/231:

The surname Lands should have been repeated on the line for Clarence but was not.
