Brown, Jacob J., 30, age at first marriage 24, farm hand; Lena, wife, 25, age at first marriage 18; James D., son, 5; Chester L., son, 4 2/12; Zella M., dau, 2 5/12, b. Ind Ky Ky. All others born Ky Ky Ky.

They are sharing a house with Matthew M. Cox and his wife Zella (Jake’s sister), but the two families each have their own number.

In 1940 they are sharing a house with Jake’s sister Lucy and her husband James Cox (a brother of the Mathew Cox who married Jake’s sister Zella). This time they do not have their own family number, so all the relationships are recorded relative to James Cox as head of household, rather than to John Jacob Brown.

Clifton and Helen are recorded as married, but there are no spouses for them in the household, so it may be in error.
