Notes for John Anderson Peyton
His gravestone gives his dates of birth and death as June 15, 1865 - Sept 4, 1946. I cannot find him in the Kentucky death records. The birth date on the stone is two years too early; his parents were not married until Sep 1865, and he was recorded in the 1870 census as age 2, and in the 1900 census as age 32, born June 1867.
Notes for Mary Ann Stamper
Her death certificate records Mary Ann Peyton, age 1366 years 4 months 8 days, birthdate blank, died 6 June 1931 in Piercy precinct, Rowan Co., farmer, married, born in Wolf Co., Ky, parent fields blank, cause of death suden death heart attact, informant John A. Peyton.

The age fields were apparently misinterpreted as the birthdate, and what appears to be 1366 is most likely meant to be 1866.

The birth place may be incorrect - the family appeared in Letcher County in both the 1860 and 1870 censuses, and were not in Morgan Co. until 1880. Her father enlisted in the Civil War in Estill Co., though, which shares a border with Wolfe Co., so it is possible that they spent the mid 1860’s farther north, and then moved back south to Letcher county before 1870.

Be careful not to confuse her with Mary Jane Stamper, born Dec 1865 in Morgan Co., daughter of Calvin Stamper and Elizabeth Higginbotham, who married John Franklin Havens, or with Mary R. Stamper, born 15 Feb 1864 in Wolfe Co., daughter of Campbell Stamper and Martha Ann Peyton, who married first Thomas Tutt and second Lewis Brewer.
Notes for John Anderson & Mary Ann (Family)
I cannot find a marriage record for them in Morgan or Rowan counties.; they may have been married in Wolfe Co.

This family is in my database mainly to document the parents of Nannie Stamper who married Roy Foster, the grandparents of Nora Peyton who married Blaine Foster, and the grandparents of Opal Payton who married Walter C. Jones. The rest of their family and ancestors are included to assist other researchers who find them on my web site.
