Carter Co., Ky birth records list an unnamed son born 31 Dec 1853, father John Kelly, mother’s maiden name Nancy Whitt.
His death certificate records Richard Kelley, age 81 years 6 months 24 days, birthdate missing due to imaging glitch, died 22 July 1934 in Clark Hill, Carter Co., Ky, married, husband of Martha Kelley, father John Kelley, mother’s maiden name Susan Kelley, cause of death general septicemia from accidental wound on leg, informant Willie Kelley, Olive Hill, Ky.
The reported age at death would imply a birthdate of 29 Dec 1852. The 1900 census listed his birthdate as Dec 1854. Splitting the difference, he is apparently the unnamed son born 31 Dec 1853.
His middle initial is recorded as W in the 1880 census, and as D in the 1920 census. Many family trees show his middle name as Whitt, although I have not seen that on any primary documents. I suspect the “D” in the 1920 census may be a matter of treating his nickname Dick as if it were a middle name.
