Her obituary reported:

“Clarabelle Jamie McClain, 93, of East Peoria, formerly of Morton and Sunnyland, passed away at 4:15 a.m. Friday, Sept. 21, 2007, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

She was born Jan. 24, 1914, in Kankakee, the daughter of Robert L. and Katherine (Walsh) DeWeese. She married Ollie Alvin McClain on May 1, 1942, in Kankakee.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Kathleen McClain; one son, Michael McClain; two brothers; and three sisters.

Surviving are one son, Dennis (Gale) McClain of East Peoria; six grandchildren, Melanie, Michelle, Alecia, Chanel, Matthew and Gianna; three great-grandchildren, Rylee, Marisa and Drew; one sister, Lois (Robert) Arseneau of Kankakee and many nieces and nephews.

Clarabelle first worked as a cashier at Krogers in East Peoria for 15 years, and she later worked at Fleming Potter as a label inspector, retiring after 15 years in 1983.

In the 1970s, she loved to ride horses with her daughter, Kathy. She also enjoyed bowling, crossword puzzles, was a great cook, an avid reader and a Bingo enthusiast. In her retirement, Clarabelle kept busy with hobbies such as oil painting, designing silk flower arrangements and making ceramic dolls, which her grandchildren will always cherish. Clarabelle will always be remembered by her family as a wonderful mother, grandmother and a great matriarch of the family.

She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Morton, where a private funeral Mass will be held. Fr. Mark DeSutter will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 24, 2007, at Remmert Funeral Home in East Peoria. Burial will be in Fondulac Cemetery in East Peoria.

Memorials may be made to Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Morton.”

In 1950 he was listed as a trucker, in 1958 he was listed as a mechanic for Texas Co, in 1959 as a tireman for Watson Bros Trans.

The US Public Records index lists Ollie McClain born 18 July 1914 living at 822 Catherine St., Pekin, IL 61554-3421. (The odd thing about this is that the nine digit zip code was first introduced in 1983, but Ollie died in 1981..)
