Notes for Mary Jane Goldie
Her death certificate records Mary Jane Hardin, age 32 years 10 months 6 days, born 6 Aug 1892 in Bath Co., Ky, married, died 12 June 1924 in Bath Co., Ky, father John Snedegar, mother’s maiden name Lizzie Goldie, both born in Bath Co., Ky, cause of death abscess of brain due to choleocystitis, informant Dr. C. T. Jones, Salt Lick, Ky, burial in Jones Graveyard.

Her gravestone says “Mary Jane Purvis Hardin, 1891 - 1924”.

Mary’s mother’s maiden name was really Purvis, but she was raised as Mary Goldie/Goldy/Golda because her mother married Jackson Goldy when Mary was just an infant.

She was listed in the 1900 census as age 10, born Aug 1889, which is probably a more accurate date. The 1910 census listed her as age 21.
Census Notes for Leslie J. & Mary Jane (Family)
1910 census of Bath Co., Ky, district 4, White Sulphur precinct, enumerated 2 May, lists on p. 15A as family #338/356:
Hardin, Leslie, 26, laborer; Mary J., wife, 21, first marriage for both, married 7 years, mother of 2 children, 2 living; Robert C., son, 3; Irvine L., son, 2; Goldy, Leslie, stepbrother, 12. All born Ky Ky Ky.

The relationship for Leslie Goldy should be brother-in-law, not stepbrother. I am skeptical of the number of years married, since their oldest child is 3, and if they were married 7 years Mary Jane would have been only 13 or 14 at the time of their marriage. That is unusually young to be married unless it was a “shotgun” wedding, but it is recorded that all children are living.
