Census Notes for Charles “Charlie” H. Nichols
There are too many different Charles Nichols born ca 1859-1862 in the 1870 and 1880 censuses of Indiana to be able to determine which one he is (about ten of them).

One possibility is the following:

1880 census of Union Co., Ky, Brownsville, enumerated 7 June, lists on p. 7 as family #77/82:
Nichols, George, 41, laborer, b. Ky Ky Ky; Margaret, wife, 31, b. Ky Ky Ky; Ellen N., 7, dau; Charles, 20, son; George, 1, son. All children born Ind Ky Ky.

This one has potential because the family of John J. Hawkins and Delia White, including their son Thomas Jefferson Hawkins whose granddaughter Mary Ernestine Hawkins married Charlies’ grandson Carl Henry Nichols, also lived in Brownsville in 1880 and are listed three pages later. This would account for a connection between the two families. On the other hand, in the censuses as an adult Charles listed his father as born in Indiana and his mother in Ohio, while both George and Margaret here are born in Kentucky.

The best way to narrow it down is to look for his two marriage records, which may give the county he was born in. (Kentucky marriage license applications did not start asking for parent names until 1906, but they asked for the parental places of birth in 1881-1905.)
Census Notes for Nora A. White
1880 census of Bath Co., Ky, White Sulphur precinct, enumerated 8 June, lists on p. 10 as family #89/92:
White, John, 35, farmer; Eliza, 45, wife; Mary, 16, dau; William, 13, son; Sarah E., 3, dau; Nora, 2, granddau; John, 20, stepson; Thomas, 18, stepson.

This would be John White who married Eliza Perry on 9 June 1867 in Bath Co.

John does not seem old enough to have a two year old granddaughter. I suspect that either she is a granddaughter of Eliza from her previous marriage, or that the relationship is wrong and she is really a daughter. Since I do not know for sure who her parents are, I am attaching her to John and Eliza.
Census Notes for Charles “Charlie” H. & Nora A. (Family)
1900 census of Bath Co., Ky, White Sulphur precinct, enumerated 8 June, lists on p. 7B as family #124:
Nickles, Charlie, 39, b. May 1861, married 18 years, b. Ind Ind Ohio, day laborer; Nora, wife, 22, b. Apr 1878, Ky Ky Ky, married 5/12; Jas, son, 15, b. Sep 1884; Lucy, dau, 11, b. Sep 1888; Author, son, 7, b. Mch 1893; Roe, son, 2, b. Dec 1897. All children listed as born Ky Ky Ky, although to be consistent it should be Ky Ind Ky.

The marriage numbers have been corrected in pencil to 0 for both spouses. It appears that the children are all from a previous marriage, and that Charlie gave the number of years since his first marriage. Since it was probably around 1882, though, he will not appear in any census with his first wife.

1910 census of Rowan Co., Ky, Farmers precinct, enumerated 14 May, lists on p. 20A as family #338/345:
Nichols, Charles H., 48, 2nd marriage, born Ind Ind Ind, cropper; Nora, wife, 33, first marriage, married 10 years, mother of 2 children, 2 living; James, son, 23, married 2 years; Arthur L., son, 14; Rolie E., son, 12; Myrtie L., dau, 6; Lottie V., dau, 1 7/12. All children born Ky Ind Ky.

1920 census of Jay Co., Indiana, Richland township, Dunkirk ward 3, enumerated 2 Jan, lists on p. 1A as family #9, at 226 Center St:
Nichols, Charley H., 60, b. Ind Ind Ohio, farm laborer; Nora A., wife, 23, b. Ky Ky Ky; Rore N., son, 23; Lotty V., dau, 11; Lillie B., dau, 8. All children born Ky Ind Ky.
