Many online family trees connect her as a daughter of Aaron Royse and Rebecca Hunt, probably based on Ancestry.com “hints”. But that Mary Ann Royse was recorded with her parents in the 1850 census as age 19, when this one had already been married 5 years and was recorded with her husband as age 21.

The older children are from William’s previous marriage.

1860 census of Rowan Co., Ky, Morehead precinct, enumerated 15 Aug, lists on p. 47 as family #376:

Heflin, Polly, 42; Lewis, 19; Wallace, 16; Commodore, 10; Richard, 10/12. Grayson, John, 78, farm laborer. All born in Kentucky.

Richard is probably a grandson; this census does not list relationships.

In 1880 Mary Heflin, age 51, mother, b. Ky Ky Ky, was enumerated in Morehead with her son Wallace. She may have moved with him to Illinois.
