Notes for Eleanor A. Dawes
The California birth index lists Elinor A. Dawes, born 4 Dec 1917 in Stanislaus Co., mother’s maiden name Donaldson.

The SSDI lists Eleanor A. Quessenberry, born 4 Dec 1917, died 19 Apr 2004, last residence Bodega Bay, Sonoma Co., California.

Her obituary in the Lodi News-Sentinel reported:

“Eleanor Quessenberry, 86, of Lodi, died April 19 at a local hospital. She was born Dec. 4, 1917, in Modesto.

Ms. Quessenberry lived in Lodi for 49 years. She was a homemaker and volunteered at Lodi Memorial Hospital for several years.

She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Ira Quessenberry, of Lodi; sons, Richard Quessenberry, of Sacramento, James Quessenberry, of Bodega Bay; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the chapel of Gierhart-Wells & Donahue Funeral Home with Pastor Alan Kimber of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Committal will follow at the Lodi Memorial Cemetery.”
Notes for Ira Hamilton & Eleanor A. (Family)
A notice in the Modesto Bee & Herald of 23 Sep 1940 reported “Mrs. Quessenberry Sues For Divorce - A divorce on the ground of cruelty is asked by Mrs. Eleanor Dawes Quessenberry of Modesto in a suit on file today in the superior court against Ira H. Quessenberry. They were married in Reno, Nev., on February 6, 1936, and were separated last September 15th. Because Mrs. Quessenberry feels her husband is better able to provide for the support of their two minor children, she asks the court to permit him to have their custody. Her attorney is Vernon F. Grant.”

They apparently reconciled, because Eleanor’s obituary in 2004 refers to Ira as her surviving husband of 68 years.
