Stamper, 346 Baern St., burial in Fleming, Ky.

Her obituary in The Mountain Eagle of Thursday, Oct 21, 1926 reported:

“Good Lady Meets Tragic Death

Aunt Mary Stamper, aged 68, well known lady of our county, was run over and killed by an automible in Cincinnati, where she had gone on a visit to her daughter. The remains were bought back and interred in Mayking grave yard where her greatfather John Adams, the patriarch of the Adams family was buried 111 years ago. Mrs. Stamper was a daughter of the late Dock Ben Adams who years ago left this country and located in Missouri and her mother was the late Judah Jenkins Adams, highly related in this country. She was the Aunt of Sheriff John D. Blair and niece of J. Wash Adams of Blackey. She was the widow of Wiley Stamper, who died in Rowan County a dozen or more years ago. She leaves several grown sons and daughters, all highly respected people. For the last few years she had made her home at Fleming, where she was greatly loved by all.”

Mary is apparently not really widowed but temporarily separated.

1910 census of Morgan Co., Kentucky, Panther’s Branch precinct, enumerated 13 May, lists on p. 18B as family #217/218:
Stamper, Wiley, 52, farmer; Mary, wife, 49, first marriage for both, married 32 years, mother of 10 children, 6 living; Clarence, son, 17; Frazie, dau, 16; Arzula, dau, 12; Wiley Jr., son, 6. All born Ky Ky Ky.

1920 census of Letcher Co., Kentucky, Fleming district, enumerated 2 Jan, lists on p. 1B as family #13:
Stamper, Mary, 60, divorced, boarding house keeper; Zuly, dau, 20, divorced; Wiley, son, 16, laborer at oil house railroad. All born Ky Ky Ky. Plus six unrelated boarders, all men age 20 to 63.
