Notes for Sarah Myers
For a long time - decades in fact! - I had Sarah linked as a daughter of Christopher Myers and Elizabeth Alfrey, based on some other Myers researcher’s data; I don’t remember who. Possibly a family group sheet for the Christopher Myers family filed at a library, since she has been that way in my files since before the days of Internet genealogy.

But in the summer of 1850, when that year’s census was taken, Sarah would have still been single, and the Christopher Myers family shows no daughter named Sarah in the 1850 census, while the Joseph Myers family does have a daughter Sarah age 17. Moreover, the Christopher Myers family has a daughter Polly age 17 in 1850, whose birthdate would conflict with Sarah’s, if she were their daughter too. So I now think it more likely that Sarah who married Isaac Hall is the same Sarah who was the daughter of Joseph Myers. (The two families of children were double first cousins to each other, since Joseph and Christopher were brothers, and Rachel and Elizabeth were sisters.)

Since I have no other evidence though, I am keeping both sets of potential parents linked, but making Joseph Myers and Rachel Alfrey the preferred parents.
Notes for James “Jim” H. & Sarah (Family)
The twins born to this liaison were recorded with Sarah in the 1870 census, and James in the 1880 census. They have the surname Hall in both those years, because that was Sarah’s name at the time they were born. James was still married to his first wife Mary Ann Hart when the twins were born, but Sarah was widowed.

Later, William adopted the surname Maze, which is how he appears in his marriage record in 1888 and in all later records. Mary became known as Mollie. Some of the records refer to her maiden name as Hall (e.g., the birth record of her daughter Nelia in 1912), while others refer to it as Maze (e.g., the death certificate of her son Morton.)
Census
1870 census of Bath Co., KY, White Sulphur Precinct, lists family:
Hall, Sarah (widow) 37; Lucy Jane, 18; Marian (female) 15; David H. 13; James, 11; Sarah T. (male), 9; William, 8 mo.; Mary, 8 mo. All born in Kentucky.

1880 census of Bath Co., Ky, Polksville precinct, enumerated 8 June, lists on p. 11 as family #111:
Maze, James H., 58, farmer, b. Ky Ky Va; Martha A., 40, wife, paralized; Susan, 18, dau; Benjamin F., 14, son. Green, Ives, 20, stepson; Green, Benjamin, 17, stepson. Hall, William, 10, boarder. Mary, 10, sister. Darety, Thomas, 25, laborer. All except James born Ky Ky Ky.

Although William and Mary Hall are listed as unrelated boarders, James is their father. The relationship “sister” for Mary Hall means that she is the sister of William Hall, not of James Maze. She later went by Mollie; it is her death certificate that provides the primary evidence that James and Sarah were the parents of these twins.
