Notes for Abraham Garst II
Marriage of Abraham Garst to Anne Frantz listed on pages 1 and 34 of Early Marriage Bonds of Ohio, Volume 2, F. through L. Original record in Book 1-A of the Clark County Probate Court records.
Abraham and Anna were first cousins, since Abraham's father and Anna mother were brother and sister.
Gravestone inscription listed on page 22 of the Dore M. Frantz burials document. It gives his date of birth as 16 June 1791. (However, this document is not consistent in how it treats inscriptions. Sometimes the exact inscription is given, but sometimes the compiler calculates a date of birth from age at death, or adds dates from other sources, without indicating that such has been done. I have not seen the stone myself.)
The family of Abraham Garst II and Anna Frantz is listed on page 227 of Our Garst Family in America. His birthdate is there given as 16 Jan 1791. On page 225, in the family group listing for his father, his birthdate is given as 26 May 1791. I am using the 16 Jun 1791 date mostly because it can plausibly lead to either other date as an error (the January date by a simple u-a switch, and the 26 May date by a mistake in the tens digit of an age at death calculation.)
Early Clark County Families, Vol. V, also gives the date of birth as 26 May 1791. But Our Garst Family may be the source for this entry.
Page 23 of the Dore M. Frantz burials document lists a tombstone for Abraham Garst, born Dec 26, 1822, died June 3, 1823, and the accompanying note identifies him as the son of Abraham and Anna (Frantz) Garst. However, the listing of that family on page 227 of Our Garst Family in America lists as Abraham and Anna's second child "Abraham Garst, III, b. Nov 15, 1821, d. Oct 1, 1852" I have not found any cemetery record with the latter dates, but it seems a likelier date of birth for Abraham and Anna's son, given the birthdates of his siblings. I have found neither any other Garst family likely to be parents of the Abraham who died as an infant, nor any cemetery record for an Abraham 1821-1852. For now, I am detaching the Abraham Garst who died as an infant, and using the dates from Our Garst Family for Abraham and Anna's son.
