Notes for Elizabeth (Edwards? Rhodes? Tipton? Moore? Payne?)
The maiden names in parentheses are those I have seen in other people’s family trees. I do not know the evidence for any of them, other than the marriage record of a James Quesenberry and Elizabeth Edwards in Tennessee in 1814, which might be a different couple.
Notes for James Slaughter & Elizabeth (Family)
I cannot find a record of this marriage in Virginia.
There was a James Quesenberry who married Elizabeth Edwards, 14 Nov 1814 in Wilson Co., Tennessee. It is quite possible that this James went to Tennessee with his brothers Joseph and William, and then returned to Virginia after marrying. If that marriage is for the same James, then it is probable that there were some unidentified older children. The widow Elizabeth who was recorded in the 1850 census, though, was listed as 49, which would be very young to be marrying in 1814. So that marriage may be for either a different James Quesenberry or a previous wife. On the other hand, Elizabeth’s age might have been recorded a few years younger than she really was in 1850.
Census
James was enumerated in the 1820 (p. 210, as Cosenbarry) and 1830 censuses (p. 350, as Quisenberry) of Wythe Co., VA, and in the 1840 census of Pulaski Co., VA.
In 1850 his widow is enumerated with the younger children:
1850 census of Pulaski Co., Virginia, district 48, enumerated 31 July, lists on p. 28 as family #196/202:
Elizabeth Quesenberry, 49; Joseph, 20, laborer; Samuel, 17; Lucinda, 14; Franklin, 12; James, 9. All born in Virginia.
