In trying to identify her parents, there were four adolescent Nancy Duncans listed in the region in the 1860 census:
Nancy Duncan age 11, daughter of Spencer Duncan and Ann Alice Akers, near Christiansburg in Montgomery Co
Nancy Duncan age 12, daughter of Joshua W. Duncan and Elizabeth Reece, near Dugspur in Carroll Co.
Nancy Duncan age 13, daughter of Peter Duncan and Viola Cox, in Indian Valley in Floyd Co
Nancy Duncan age 17, daughter of George R. Duncan and Elizabeth Morricle, in Copper Valley in Floyd Co
According to user submitted family trees at Ancestry.com, Nancy d/o Spencer married Edward Kennett on 6 Sep 1877, and Nancy d/o George married Samuel Palmer on 31 Dec 1867.
There was no marriage data for Nancy d/o Joshua or Nancy d/o Peter. So as far as I know at this time, she could be either one.
