Notes for Ross L. Cox
On p. 96, Cemeteries of Floyd (Montgomery) Co., VA Indian Valley District, states that a broken stone in Duncan Cemetery says he died 29 Aug 1854, age 41. This is not possible, considering that he married Ann Wade in 1810, and was listed as age 62 in the 1850 census. Also, Dorothy Burnett Peterson's Blue Ridge Heritage, p. 146, says that he was killed 6 Nov 1851 by a runaway team. Either the "broken stone" was badly misread, or the stone is for a different Ross Cox, perhaps his son.
Notes for Anne Wade
According to p. 96, Cemeteries of Floyd Co., VA, Indian Valley District, her stone says Anna Cox, Dec 26, 1790 - Jan 6, 1864. But census records suggest a date of birth ca 1793. Also her parents were married 2 Feb 1792. So I am going to assume, for now, that either her stone was misread, or the descendants who erected it did not know her correct age.

Ross Cox, 62, b. Franklin Co; Anna, 58, b. Floyd Co.; Preston, 18, b. Floyd Co.; Carter, 88, b. Halifax Co., Esalen (? female, perhaps Evalin), 19, b. Floyd Co.
(It is probable that the 19 year old is not Ross and Anna’s daughter, since she appears out of birth order after Ross’s father. This census does not list relationships or marital status.)
1860 census of Floyd Co., Virginia, Court House district, enumerated 18-20 Aug, lists on p. 170 as family #1220/1142:
Anna Cox, 76; Delilah Duncan, 7. Both born in Virgina.
(Anna should be listed as 67, not 76. Delilah Duncan is her granddaughter, the daughter of Peter Duncan and Violet Cox.)
