Notes for James William ("Jim") Jones
Rowan Co. birth records, on LDS microfilm #216839, list James W. Jones, b. April 5, 1856, son of James Jones & Emily McClain, place of birth Licking. (Most of the places in this book are the river or fork the family lived near.)

His death certificate states James Jones, Jr., age 80 years 5 months 16 days, born 5 Apr 1858 in Rowan Co., died 16 Oct 1936 in Morehead, Rowan Co., married, husband of Eveline Jones, farmer, father James Jones, mother’s maiden name Sarah Clark, cause of death lobar pneumonia, arterio schlerosis and senility, informant Mary Kissinger.

Somehow Jim’s daughter Mary has listed her own mother’s maiden name as her father’s, rather than his (Emily McClain.)

His obituary in the Rowan County News says "Mr. Jim Jones departed this life Oct. 16,1936, at the home of his son Elbert Jones near Bronston, of pneumonia. Age 80 years 5 months and 16 days, he was a member of the Missionary Baptist church. He was married in 1876 to Mrs. Sarrah Clark to this union were born 8 children, 5 of whom survive him: Mrs. Henry Black, Mrs. Silas Caudill, Mrs. Henry Kissinger, and Mrs. Lonnie Davis of this county, and Mrs. Ernest Kiger of Muncie, Ind. The other 3 children and his wife preceded him to the grave. Later he married Mrs. Eveline Brown and to this union were born 5 children. This wife and 3 of the children survive him: Anderson Jones of Carter Co., Mrs. Levy Dehart of Haldeman, and Elbert Jones of near Bronston. The body was brought to the home of his granddaughter, Mrs. Howard Ferguson where he lay in state Friday until Sunday. Services were conducted Saturday night by Rev. T. F. Lyons and on Sunday at the Baptist church at Cemetery hill by Henry Hall. Burial took place in the Caudill Cemetery. All the children were at his bedside except Mrs. Ernest Kiser (sic) who was very ill at that time. Mr. Jones had put in an application for an Old Age Pension only a few days before his death."

Note that the birthdate implied by the age at death in the obituary would be April 30, 1856, which conflicts with the birth record.

Phil Brubaker's Clark file says that Sarah Clark/Black married "little Jimmy" Jones, brother of Susie Jones who married Sarah's brother "little Sammy" Clark. He lists the children of Jimmy & Sarah as "Mary Bell Jones m Henry Kissinger, Rena Jones m Ernest Keiger, Lizzie Jones b. 1877 m Henry Black (parents of Wales Black)" and the children of Jimmy & Evelyn as "Anderson Jones m Luize Puckett, Elbert (Duckleg) Jones m Barbara Black (Mitchell's dau), and Vada Jones m Levi Dehart (Hubbard's son)."
Notes for Mary Evaline Brown
The SSDI lists Evaline Jones, born 5 Sep 1875, died 15 June 1972, last residence Owingsville, Bath Co., Ky.

I cannot find a match in the Kentucky death index, though. So she may have died out of state while visiting one of her children, perhaps Springfield, Ohio, where Elbert was living.
Notes for James William ("Jim") & Mary Evaline (Family)
Rowan Co. marriage book 4, p. 241, records marriage on 17 Apr 1902 of James William Jones, age 45, residence Fraley, and Evaline Brown, age 24, residence Wyatt, at "house at Browns", Elliott Co, witnesses H. R. Adkins and F. J. Brown, second marriage for both.

Although both spouses on this marriage record are listed as having been previously married, and Jim’s obituary reports that his second marriage was to “Mrs. Eveline Brown”, several sources such as Elbert’s birth record and Vada’s obituary give Brown as her maiden name. The 1910 census also indicates it as her first marriage. So it is likely that Evaline’s first marriage was very brief, after which she returned to her maiden name.
