Notes for James William “Jim Will” Sexton
His WW I draft registration card, filed 30 Aug 1897, records Jim Will Sexton, age 21, residence Wagner, Ky, born 21 Aug 1897, farmer, self employed, nearest relative Lucy E. Sexton, Wagner, Ky.
Census
In 1920 he is listed in Highland Park, Wayne Co., Michigan, as James Sexton, 21, widowed, machine hand at auto factory, with three sons of Neal Callaway who were also working at the auto factory.
Notes for Lucy E. Slusher
There were two death certificates filed for Lucy, and curiously, they list her cause of death differently.
The first one, filed on the day of death, in Vol. 74, #36746, has most fields blank. It records Lucy Sexton, died 19 Oct 1918, married, cause of death “died of convulsions following childbirth they had no dr”, place of burial Jennings Cemetery, undertaker Amos Skaggs. The medical section is signed by L. F. Robbins, health officer, Rowan Co. None of the other fields are filled in.
The second one, in Vol. 84, #41967, was filed two months later on 9 Dec 1918. It records Lucy Sexton, age 15 years 3 months 14 days, born 20 Oct 1918 in Rowan Co., Ky, died 19 Oct 1918 in Rowan Co., Ky, married, father Joseph Slusher born in Morgan Co., Ky, mother’s maiden name Sarrah Jennings born in Elliott Co., Ky, cause of death influenza, burial in Ramey Cemetery, undertaker Jesse Petitt, Crix, Ky. The medical section is signed by L. F. Robinson. (Note the slight name difference.)
The date of birth in this one is apparently a duplicate entry of the date of burial. Subtracting the reported age at death gives 5 July 1903, which I have entered as her birth date, but it may be off. Age at death statements are very often wrong even when the birthdate is known, since the math was frequently confused in the recording.
