A clipping from an unspecified newspaper, reprinted in Rowan County Jottings by Leroy Hinton, says "Haldeman - May 14, 1931 : The Dramatic Club of the Haldeman High School will present a play, "The Empty House", at 7 pm Friday night of this week, the following is the cast of characters: Nora, the maid, Martilla Hicks; Larry Ferguson, Paul Pettit; ...."
His stone in New Sill Cemetery reads Paul J. Pettit, 3 Nov 1914 - 4 May 1945.
His funeral was not held until 1949, though. The Rowan County News of Feb. 17, 1949, contained a notice that "A funeral is set for Sunday for Seaman Paul Petitt, son of Mr. & Mrs. Frank Petitt of Morehead, killed while serving aboard an LST in the Pacific. Surviving are his parents, one daughter, Joyce Ann, 3 sisters, Rose Petitt of Columbus, Oh; Mildred Petitt and Mrs. Marvin Sturgill, both of Morehead, and four brothers, Russell, Homer, Leonard and Ewing, all of Morehead."
