Notes for Alma Jane Cooper
The Kentucky birth index lists Alma J. Cooper, born 27 July 1916 in Breathitt Co., Ky (a misindexing of Rowan Co.11), mother’s maiden name Julia Styall.
All other records are consistent with her birthdate being July 22, so the 27 is probably a transcription error.
The Ohio deaths database lists Alma J. Caudill, age 81, born 22 July 1916 in Kentucky, died 29 April 1998 at long-term care facilities in Springfield, Clark Co., Ky, widowed, father’s surname Cooper, mother’s maiden name Steagall, occupation waitress.
There are two stones for her in Lee Cemetery, one a stone with the name Alma Caudill, the birthdate July 22, 1916, and no death date, the other a plaque inscribed Alma J. Cooper Caudill, July 22, 1922 - Apr 29, 1998, wife of Joseph Hewett and Lindsay Caudill. I suspect that the first one was erected when Lindsay died, and the second when Alma did, and for some reason her birthdate was in error.
