His WW I draft registration card, filed 12 Sep 1918, records Jim Washington Jones, age 37, residence Crix, Rowan Co., Ky, born 30 Oct 1881, occupation farming, self-employed, nearest relative Molly Jones, wife, same address. It is signed James Washington Jones, his mark.

Rowan Co. marriage book 4, p. 210, records marriage of James W. Jones, age 20, and Molley Riddle, age 17, on 6 Feb 1902 at Commodore Riddle's, Morehead, witnesses Thos Foster and Lillie Brown, surety by James Riddle. Bride and groom and both their fathers born in Rowan Co., James' mother born in Menifee Co., Molley's mother in Elliott Co. (Elliott Co. wasn't formed yet at the time Molley's mother was born, nor was Menifee Co. at the time James’ mother was born - both counties were formed in 1869 - so they probably meant the areas that later became those counties.)

1920 census of Rowan Co., Ky, precinct #7, p. 174A, enumerated 19 Jan 1920, lists as family #6:
Jones, James, 37; Mollie, wife, 35; Isaac, son, 15; Ollie, son, 11; Cora, dau, 9; Arthur, son, 7; Worley, son, 2 1/12. All born in Kentucky.

1930 census of Richland Co., Ohio, Jackson township, enumerated 18 April, lists on p. 9A as family #187/194:
Jones, James, 47, age at first marriage 19, laborer; Mollie, wife, 44, age at first marriage 16; Arthur, son, 16; Worlie, son, 12; Vadie, dau, 10; Homer, son, 2 3/12; Isaac, son, 23, married, age at first marriage 20; Ella M., dau-in-law, 21, age at first marriage 19; Nellie B., granddau, 1 4/12; Ollie, son, 21, married, age at first marriage 19; Thelma, 17, dau-in-law, age at first marriage 15; Carl E., 1 1/12, grandson. The toddlers Homer, Nellie and Carl all born Ohio Ky Ky, all others born Ky Ky Ky, including the two daughters in law.
