Sally Phillips Quesenberry's family bible, as printed in the Cox-Phillips family newsletter, does not list any child born in 1861, but it does list Bryant Phillips born 16 April 1851. This is probably either a typo or a misreading of a poorly formed 6, because his sister Mary was born in Dec 1851. Elza Cox's Genealogy of Tobias Phillips gives Bryant's birthdate as 16 Apr 1861. I suspect the 30 Sep 1861 is the date the birth was registered. (Marjorie Fluor Moore's "Birth and Beath record of Floyd County" book that I got these entries from lists them as birthdates, but nearly ever one that I've compared is at least a month and sometimes up to 6 months later than other records of birthdate such as family bibles or cemetery inscriptions.)
