Notes for Samuel Ferguson Pribble
His county of birth was variously given as Scott Co. on his daughter Cynthia’s death certificate, as (the non-existent) Robinson Co. on his daughter Mary Catherine’s (presumably meaning that part of Bracken Co. which later became part of Robertson Co.), and as Bracken Co. on his son Jeremiah’s. Many family trees on Ancestry.com also have it as either Fayette Co., Ky, Scott Co., Ky, or Washington Co., Pennsylvania.
The early census records, however, suggest that the Pribble families who were in Pendleton Co. from 1840 onward were all in Bracken Co. in 1810 and 1820, and in Scott Co. in 1830.
There was also a Samuel B. Pribble born about 1820 who was listed in Sandsuck precinct of Pendleton Co. with wife Mahala in 1850 through 1880. Be careful not to get them confused.
The online family trees, from which I have taken the birth and death dates, presumably from a gravestone since they are consistent, also vary on the names of his parents. Most show them as William Pribble and Mary Jane Barnhill, with 8 children born between 1808 and 1827, but they then show the marriage for William and Mary Jane as being in 1852, which seems quite odd. Others show his father as either Thomas or James, and his mother as Mary Margaret Barnhill. (Most, however, show Thomas and Mary Margaret as being the parents of the Samuel B. Pribble who married Mahala Records.) Most likely his father was William, but his mother was some previous wife.
Since my only interest is in establishing the parents of Emeline Pribble who married Benjamin Franklin Pettit, and William Ferguson Pribble who married Eliza Jane Pettit, I am not attempting to ascertain the truth of the matter.
