Census Notes for Thomas K. & Celia (Family)
Thomas is on the Logan Co. tax list for 1827-1843.
1840 census of Logan Co., VA lists, line 25, lists:
Thos Clark, males 1 under 5, 1 age 5 to 9, 3 age 15-19, 1 age 20 to 29, 1 age 30 to 39; females 1 under 5, 1 age 5 to 9, 1 age 10 to 14, 1 age 30 to 39.
Since the Logan Co. history book only mentioned three sons for Thomas, and one of his sons was born after 1940, it is possible this represents a merged household.
1850 census of Logan Co., Virginia, enumerated 10 Sep, lists as family #497:
Thomas K. Clarke, 50, farmer; Celia, 45; Nancy, 14; Burwell, 12; Eliza, 9; Thomas, 7. All born in Virginia.
1860 census of Logan Co., Virginia, Pigeon Trace, enumerated 1 Aug, lists on p. 107 as family #680/679:
Skidmore Polly, 80, farmer; Elizabeth, 16; Thomas, 14; Mordeica, 12; Thomas Clark 61, b. Va, “soldier 1812”. All the Polly family born in Kentucky.
Thomas’s son Thomas is listed as age 16 with his nephew George W. Clark, son of his brother John B. Clark. I could not find any of the other family members.
1870 census of Logan Co., West Virginia, Hardy township, enumerated 16 Aug, lists on p. 35 as family #259:
Clark, Thomas, 79, b. Va, farmer; Parsons, 60 (f), b. Va; White, Julian (f), 22; Watson, 6, b. WV.
“Parsons” is probably a second wife, but since this census year does not show relationships, and she might be some other relation such as a widowed daughter-in-law or sister-in-law, I am not entering her into my database. Juian may be the Julia Ann Clark age 14 listed in the household headed by a widowed Catherine Clark in 1860.
