Notes for John William [Brown] Cornett
For a while I thought that Martha married twice, first to William Brown and second to John W. Cornett, but I’m now pretty sure that William Brown and John W. Cornett are the same person, and that he switched surnames around due to being born out of wedlock, but with an acknowledged father.
His brother Rufus went by the name Brown (except in the 1880 census where he appears as a Cornett), but J. W. appears to have mostly gone by Cornett, except in the 1910 census.
The Kentucky death index lists John W. Cornette, age 85, died 4 Dec 1958 in Fayette Co., residence Rowan Co., certificate Vol. 52, #25948.
A joint stone in the Cornette Cemetery off Pretty Ridge Road (Rt. 1274) says John W. Cornett, 1873-1958; Martha A. Cornett, 1876-19__
A personal item in the Rowan County News of 19 Dec 1929 says “Mr. and Mrs. Vencil Riddle visited Mrs. Riddle’s parents Mr. and Mrs. Bill Cornette.”

They were probably married in Elliott Co., but I don’t know whether it was as Brown, Cornett, or Cornette.
