His gravestone in Purvis Cemetery says Malachi Cooper, 1850-1929. I cannot find him in the Kentucky death records.

Her gravestone in Caudill Cemetery says Eliza Cooper, Sept 30, 1860 - July 11, 1903, wife of M. C. Cooper.
Other records for her husband give his name as either Malachi Cooper or Richard M. Cooper. I suspect that the “C” comes from interpreting Malachi as two names.

1880 census of Rowan Co., Ky, Brushy Fork precinct, enumerated 1 June, lists on p. 32 as family #239/282:
Cooper, Malachi, 30, farmer; Eliza, 19, wife. Both listed as born Ky Ky Ky, although that conflicts with the 1900 census reading for Eliza’s parental birthplaces.
The preceding family is his brother Frank Cooper (25) and his wife Lydia Johnson (22). The one before that is his brother James Cooper (23) with wife Mary (16). The following family is his parents George Johnson (58) with wife Mary (56).
