His WW I draft registration card, filed 5 June 1917, recorded Jesse J. Caudill, age 29, residence Vale, Ky, born 19 Dec 1887 in Rowan Co., Ky, occupation farming, self-employed, married supporting a wife & 4 children.

Since his sister Nancy Ellen was born in Jan 1887, it is probable that he was really born in 1888.

His obituary in the Rowan County News of Thu., June 16, 1949, reported "Jesse J. Caudill, 61, died Sunday in Greencastle, Ind., of injuries from an auto accident. He married Lula Lewis. They were the parents of 11 children, of whom 9 survive: Allie Caudill and Mrs. Cletus Dehart of Elliottville; Mrs. Ollie Lambert, Oscar Caudill and Wayne Caudill of Clearfield; Mrs. Estill Lambert, Sophia, WV; Otis Caudill of Soldier; and Mrs. Gene Robertson, Streetor, Ill. Also surviving are 5 brothers and 3 sisters: Sam Caudill, Frank Caudill and Mrs. Rosa Harris, Portsmouth, Oh.; Charlie Caudill, Knightstown Ind.; Davis Caudill, Columbus City, Ind.; Mrs. Tilden H. Caudill of Rowan Co.; and Mrs. Martha Hyatt of Oregon."

Notice that even though it says 9 children survive, it lists only eight.

1930 census of Rowan Co., Ky, Hogtown precinct, enumerated 10 April, lists on p. 4B as family #68/70:
Caudill, Jessie J., 42, age at first marriage 18, driller at clay mine; Lula M., wife, 38, age at first marriage 15; Gladis L, dau, 20, divorced, age at first marriage 16; Oscar, son, 14; Ottis, son, 9; Olive V., dau, 4 11/12; Wayne, son, 3. All born Ky Ky Ky.

Their son Allie and his wife Stella are the next household.

The next household is headed by their son Allie.
