The informant seems to have not noticed the vertical marginal labels that said Mother and Father, and assumed that the name and birthplace fields below the occupation section were still referring to the wife of the deceased.

Her name was also sometimes spelled as Ester or Hester. Her gravestone says Easter Cox, wife of Nathan Cox, died 1901, with no birthdate.

Rowan Co. marriage register A, p. 49, records the marriage on 13 July 1890 of Nathan Cox and Easter Ann Porter.

1900 census of Rowan Co., Ky, Hogtown precinct, enumerated 23 June, lists on p. 16B as family #277/284:
Cox, Nathin, 37, b. Mar 1863, farmer; Easter, wife, 33, b. Nov 1866, married 10 years, mother of 4 children, 2 living; Mary A., dau, 4, b. Nov 1895. All born Ky Ky Ky.

Although the census states that 2 children are living, Mary A. is the only one listed.
