Letha White was John’s wife, not his mother; apparently their son Claude confused the intention of the question and entered his own mother’s maiden name.

His gravestone gives his birthdate as June 25, 1848.

Morgan County birth records on LDS microfilm #0126,835 record birth of Leatha White on 22 Feb 1854 to Nathan White and Lousia Deheart.

Her gravestone says Letha J. Reynolds, Feb 22, 1851 - Feb 14, 1929. I cannot find her in the Kentucky death records, though, so she may have died out of state.
