His WW I draft registration card, filed 5 June 1917, records Jessie Allen Lewis, age 29, residence Vale, Ky, born 7 Aug 1888 in Rowan Co., Ky, occupation farming, self employed, married supporting a wife & 3 children.
His gravestone says Jesse A. Lewis, Aug 7, 1887 - Jan 30, 1956.
Generally I give more credence to birth dates reported early in someone’s life than to those reported at their death, since survivors are very often mistaken. But in this case I’m going with 1887 because it is more consistent with census records (he was reported as age 13 born Aug 1886 in the 1900 census, taken in June, and as age 22 in 1910, taken in April), and because it fits better with the spacing of children.

Rowan Co. marriage book 6, p. 535, records the marriage on 21 Sep 1909 of Jesse Lewis, 21, son of Isaac Lewis born Morgan Co. and Rhoda Lewis, to Bertha Tabor, 20, daughter of B. L. Tabor born Bath Co. and Sarah Tabor born Letcher Co., at S. F. Moore’s (bride’s mother Mrs. Moore) by Harvey Trent, witnesses C. W. Tabor, Ed Thomas, Lacy Tabor.
This was a double wedding of sisters to brothers, as the marriage of Enoch Lewis to Maye Tabor was recorded the same day with all information the same except the names and ages of the bride and groom.

This enumerator consistently spelled Lewis as Louis. The three preceding families are headed by brothers of Jesse (Samuel, Enoch and James), and the three following families are headed by his parents and two other brothers (John and Thomas.)
