John was recorded under the surname Barber in all of the censuses, and on all three of his marriage records. But his death certificate and gravestone are both under the spelling Barbour.

The Kentucky death index lists John W. Barbour, age 83, died 23 Jan 1959 in Rowan Co., residence same.

Her gravestone says Rose Stegall Barber, with the indicated dates.

Rowan Co., Ky marriage book 3, p. 160, records the marriage on 25 Dec 1898 of John W. Barber, age 23, farmer, residence Paragon, born in Morgan Co., both parents born in Bath Co., to Rose Steagall, age 20, residence Morehad, born in and both parents born in Elliott Co., his second marrage, her first, to be at residence of bride (on license application), at Jess Steagall’s (on minister’s return) by John Kelley, witnesses John Steagall and William Steagall, bond surety by Tilman Brown.

1900 census of Rowan Co., Ky, Farmers precinct, enumerated 27 June, lists on p. 24B as family #426/432:
Barber, John W., 24, b. July 1875, day laborer; Rosa, wife, 20, b. Nov 1879, married 1 year, 0 children, 0 living. Both born Ky Ky Ky.

1910 census of Rowan Co., Ky, Morehead town, enumerated 30 April, lists on p. 10A as household #170/180:
Barber, John, 31, widowed, laborer at mill; Rose, Mick, 33, boarder, divorced, lumber inspector; Allen, Wm, 19, boarder, single, laborer at odd jobs; Kegley, Rosa, 25, servant, single, cook; Audrie (f), 11/12, boarder. All born Ky Ky Ky.

Rosa Kegly is the daughter of Andrew Gordon Kegley and Catherine Fultz. She married Milton “Mick” Rose about a year after this census was taken.
